Illustration for Weekly Reader magazine's reprinting of the classic Old Yeller. This is from the scene in the book where Old yeller fends off a black bear to protect the young boy Arliss from being attacked.
I like how you have mostly left out a background, it really makes the subjects pop out at you. I bet that's a really good thing for illustrations, so they aren't too busy.
Aie! That's one tough bear there. I love the purples around the bear's mouth and cheeks. It's subtle but it really stands out for me. It draws me back to that mouth.
Reminds me of my dad watching Old Yeller and breaking the movie apart. He'd never watch the whole thing, he'd just put it on and watch this fight scene. He said they replaced the golden retriever and put in a pit bull and actually got the bull to fight the bear. You've captured the fear I always got when watching that scene. Amazing work!
A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
