Illustration for Weekly Reader magazine's reprinting of the classic Old Yeller. This is from the scene in the book where Old yeller fends off a black bear to protect the young boy Arliss from being attacked.

That looks great. All the subtle color shades you used in the bear look great. Awesome job!

I like how you have mostly left out a background, it really makes the subjects pop out at you. I bet that's a really good thing for illustrations, so they aren't too busy.

I really like the minimalist background, for the reason deona said. Only thing I might change is the grass, which could perhaps use a bit of color.

this is really intense

I hope that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.

Aie! That's one tough bear there.
I love the purples around the bear's mouth and cheeks. It's subtle but it really stands out for me. It draws me back to that mouth.

Reminds me of my dad watching Old Yeller and breaking the movie apart. He'd never watch the whole thing, he'd just put it on and watch this fight scene. He said they replaced the golden retriever and put in a pit bull and actually got the bull to fight the bear.
You've captured the fear I always got when watching that scene. Amazing work!
